Turkish Mountaineering Federation Chairman Alaattin Karaca said the claims that pieces of Noah’s Ark were found on Mount Ararat were expected to greatly contribute to faith tourism in the region. Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, Karaca said the claims, made by Hong Kong and Turkish evangelical explorers in the eastern province of Ağrı, evoked excitement in mountaineering circles.
“As the federation, we have put in a great effort to open Mount Ararat to tourism. It was banned for tourists until sometime ago because of terror events and we succeeded to reopen it to tourism.”
